Actor/comedian Chris Kattan, best known for his ten year stint on the wildly popular Saturday Night Live series and his role in A Night at the Roxbury had a close call on February 10th when he narrowly escaped a major collision uninjured. Fortunately for Mr. Kattan, the vehicle he launched his blue sedan into was unoccupied, and Chris’s front bumper took the brunt end of the impact. While the comedian emerged unhurt, arresting officials suggested that he might have shown symptoms of driving while intoxicated. Raw footage of Chris’s field test could support this theory. Chris certainly did teeter and stumble over himself as if he was under the influence of an intoxicant.
Via a twitter feed, the accused celebrity defended himself by stating he was suffering from jet lag, having just spent more than fifteen hours in the skies. While jet lag can cause moments of disorientation, police counter that the vehicle Chris collided with was surrounded by orange cones and warning signs, something that even a disoriented driver would find difficult to overlook. There is no word yet as to whether Chris will be charged with destruction of property in addition to DUI, but updates for this case are certain to surface in no time.
Glancing back at Chris Kattan’s previous DUI conviction record, fans will be happy to learn that this is the funnyman’s first offense. In show business, one mistake makes for a pretty spectacular track record for any star with a long running career. As far as the nature of the DUI, Chris Kattan pulled his off the Hollywood way by slamming into the back of a bumper Lindsay Lohan style and ripping down the 101 Freeway Lamar Odum style. He might suffice to say that his DUI was essentially a parody of other famous DUI’s reenacted in real time.
For whatever it may be worth, Chris is known for his sense of humor and that could be the ability he will have to lean on to get through the inevitable legal proceedings and media scandals associated with these types of events. The peak of Chris Kattan’s popularity was almost a decade ago. Ironically, the negative press Chris is hoping to avoid could help to revive his name, especially if the situation is handled delicately.
Chris Kattan has a very wide comedic range. He excels in character acting and impersonations. Following his SNL exit, Chris appeared in a multitude of movies and was featured in bit parts on major television shows such as How I Met Your Mother. He has starred alongside comedic geniuses Will Ferrell, Eddie Griffin and Dave Chappelle and can hold his own amongst the masses.
Young Chris Kattan was raised on a Zen retreat, so hopefully he’s picked up a few stress relieving techniques to maintain his composure until the incident has come to pass. Prior to his DUI arrest, Chris made a couple of SNL guest appearances so who knows? Kattan fans can look forward to an anything goes future for this unpredictable comedian.
